Variations

A feature flag's variations are first created at the creation of a feature flag - the feature flag creation form allows you to define two variations with their value being tied to the type of feature flag:

  • A boolean type feature flag only allows for a variation's value to be true or false, allows exactly two variations
  • A number type feature flag only allows for a variation's value to be any number
  • A text type feature flag only allows for a variation's value to be text
  • A object type feature flag only allows for a variation's value to be an object

Variations can be used across environments, but cannot be used across feature flags.

Create

Aside from the initial variations created at the creation of a feature flag, every feature flag type, other than a boolean type, allows you to create however many variations you would like.

To add a new variation, simply use the 'Add variation' button, provide a key and value for the variation, and save your changes.

A variation's key must follow a lowercase, kebab-case convention (for example, my-variation), and its value must match the flag's type.

Update

To update a variation, whether it be the key or value, provide a new key or value for the variation and save your changes.

note

A boolean type feature flag's variation values are fixed to true and false, so only their keys can be updated.

Remove

To remove variation, simply use the 'Remove variation' button and save your changes.

note

The 'Remove variation' button will be disabled if you only have two variations as that is the minimum number of variations allowed.
